Hi,
What is the Mess procedure in IIITH? I have heard that everything is operated through portals, so does mess have one? And how many messes are there in IIIT? What is the billing procedure and what about refund of left out money?

There are 4 messes, and a canteen. Registrations for meals are made through a centralized mess portal. One can eat in a mess other than what she has registered for after swiping the Student ID card (and paying from the mess account).
Money left in the mess account is refunded when a student has completed her term in college.

How often per week do you get non-veg food in the mess?

As of now there is only veg food and egg breakfast in the Messes. The Canteen, however, serves non-veg lunch thrice a week and dinner once a week that you can register for (other than it’s regular made-to-order food).

Is jain food available in any of the messes in IIITH?

If by Jain Food u mean, without Onion & Garlic, then Yes. The Yuktahar Mess serves such food. Moreover, during some Jain Festival in which ppl r supposed to eat no vegies in any meals, there is some special food in Yuktahar. Same goes for Navratra special food, which is served in NBH mess. One can eat in any mess one wants.

Thanks for the response, but by jain food I meant without potatoes, onions, garlic, ginger and carrots. So is it available? Or is it possible that I could (after joining IIIT H) request the cook to make a separate dish for me?

Yes, Yuktahar serves food without all these & during the fasting season, they also provide meals before sunset. If one finds any problems with the food one can always contact Mess Committee.

why there are four messes?
I mean is there any difference in each of these.
so does the card system mean the charges are made on the item we eat(like a different charge for a vegiterian and a non-veg.

All serve different cuisines; North Indian, South Indian, a mixed mess serving both North and South Indian food and one serving nutritious, saatvik food. Swiping deducts required amount from your mess account, and yes the amount differs breakfast is cheaper than dinner; non-veg is costlier than veg.
